Charming Plaid Quilt - Free Pattern
This is a sweet and simple quilt that uses two charm packs and little bit of yardage. But don't let it fool you, it turns out stunning and everyone loves this little cutie!
Here's some tips I learned from making this quilt:
- I used two different charm packs to make this quilt. Ruby Star Society Best Day Ever - available September 2025 - and Starry New Colors - available July 2025. In retrospect, it probably would have turned out looking better if I had used two of the same charm packs. Oh well, next time. 😉
- I cut 5" WOF strips of two complimentary yardages, like the pattern instructs. I used RSS Starry Neon Pink and Starry Vivid Pink. I don't care how careful you are, the subcut 5" squares always come out slightly off compared to the charm pack 5" squares. I ordered myself an 5" square Accuquilt die cutter to get them perfect next time. It's so much better to start out with perfectly cut fabric before the entire thing starts to go heck in a hand basket. I'm totally psyched that I can use it anytime I am making a quilt with charm packs.
- The pattern is made up of 11 rows of 11 squares each. I added an extra border row of the two complimentary fabrics making the quilt 13 rows of 13 squares each. The quilt finishes out 9" larger at 58 1/2". I ❤️ 60" X 60" lap quilts.
- And, as you can see from the photo of my quilt, I went with a wide 1" binding of a third fabric, RSS Starry Sunshine. This is my favorite colorway of the Starry fabric basics. It really highlighted the gold color in the prints of the charm pack squares. The backing is RSS Starry Multi-color.
